A violent blast of fresh air, Punky Dolls debut album is full of driving guitar, anthemic choruses, dry sarcasm and spitting invective. Drawing on old and new influences the group meld Green Day and the Sex Pistols with an occasional nod to My Chemical Romance. Wedged between balls-to-the-wall rockers like Thao Thong Sai (Mr Thong Sai) and D.I.Y. songwriter Ling demonstrates his balladeer credentials with the lilting One Word, Nor and Yom.
Released in Lao in October 2007 the album has received plenty of local radio and TV airplay for singles Thao Thong Sai and Sut Khob Fa and looks set to cement Punky Dolls as a new force in Lao music.
Online release date is scheduled for early 2008.
